Alfredo Martinez- Buddy Watch Walk
A special piece done for Xuluprophet by Alfredo Martinez. Xuluprophet is the music sponsor for Buddy Watch Walk, and Alfredo came up with this version of Xulu's alter ego, SxrewLoose, the Troll of River Street to commemorate John Ring's walk across the US to raise money and awareness for veteran PTSD, Homelessness, and Suicide. He started walking from the band's back door (Tybee Island Pier) and will finish at Santa Monica Pier.

The Gypsy Troll illustration is the marriage of a number of peoples experiences coming together. The inspiration came about in part from hearing about John’s trek across the country and all that entails. In part it also comes from the stories I've gotten from Xulu over the years detailing his “gypsy” years.
I revisited the Troll of River Street design as a younger free spirit wearing loose comfortable clothing, in my head I see him traveling the fantasy continent on the way to the swamp he will eventually make his home. During this journey he is living off what he can produce with the guitar strapped to his back and by what he gains from the critters he encounters on the road. Travel has that effect on people. It brings them together and opens up perspectives, it challenges our preconceptions and grows the heart as much as the mind. I’m sure this journey will have a lasting effect on John as well as the people he encounters on the way. The drawing is a commemoration of that. Alfredo Martinez 100% of sale after printing and shipping cost will go to buddy watch walk.

My name is John Ring, I serve in the Georgia Army National Guard with Delta Company 2-121 with the 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. I am walking across the country, 2,462 miles from the Tybee Island Pier to the Santa Monica Pier. My mission: raise awareness to Veterans issues, PTSD, homelessness, addiction, MST, suicide, and getting our Veterans out of the criminal justice system. I am also walking to raise funds for Buddy Watch, Inc., a non-profit organization in Midway, Georgia, that is working to build tiny homes for our homeless Veterans. In the future there will be onsite mental health treatment and tiny homes at the same location to help better serve our Veterans needs. Alfredo has done the branding and almost all of the art for Xuluprophet. This is the character 'Sxrewloose' that Xulu created as part of an ongoing online story loosely based on his life and the bands adventures. Keep your eyes open for a collaboration of Kevin Ziegler and Alfredo.
Alfredo Martinez Art is making character paintings like these available for sale. Meet John Ring Nov 22 at JinxThe Connection

One of our fans John Ring is doing something outstanding, and we have a section below that goes into detail about what Buddy Watch Walk is all about. Before we touch on that I wanted to relate some of the back story about how the band came to be in it's current incarnation in Savannah.
My Savannah story starts out with a 30 year alcohol addiction that had at last led me to the inevitable destination of all addicts... the end of the rope. I had never been homeless before and had managed to move several states away, running from myself about 1/2 a year earlier. Soon the woman I moved here with had enough of my shit and asked me to move out. I found myself in a new city with no support system, and nowhere to go. Fortunately I had experienced a brief bout of abstinence a few years prior and was able to find AA again and start to put things back together. I stayed at the shelter, went to outpatient treatment and addressed my mental health at a reduced cost clinic. This transformative new beginning started on June 10th 2012. I met Alfredo first, Oisin within a year or so, and he found Rhett. Fast forward a few years and we linked up permanently in 2017 . The rest of the story is pretty public. As a band we have thrown benefits, and charity events for all sorts of folks over the years. Part of our business model leaves room for service to the community we inhabit by design. Ever since 2013 we have taken on some veteran issues when life allows, and done fundraisers for some as well. John came to me and asked if I would consider being involved. I went to Oisin and Rhett and asked them. Oisins response was along the lines of, " well the vets are one of our groups, so yeh" Rhett the same, and he was the one of us that got up and out early to see John leave Tybee Pier. Knowing from first hand experience what sleeping outside is like, and how the weather can throw a wrench in plans, I found a personal interest in the actual reason John was doing this. He is raising money to get treatment for addicted veterans. John Ring is raising money for homeless veterans. He is talking about PTSD and raising money for treatment for veterans. All good things! Xuluprophet, as a brand, has no political affiliations, and each member moves as he sees fit. The men and women who volunteer to serve the nation's interest, who go to the horrors of the battlefield most assuredly deserve the after care and resources to not needlessly suffer. The brand and band members stand by that. - Xulu
