Dunbrody, by Oisin Daly tells the tale of Irish immigrants that migrated to Savannah, GA from Wexford Ireland during the Great Famine in the 1840s. The Dunbrody was a Cargo ship commissioned in Montreal, Quebec to transport timber, cotton and guano before the crisis in Ireland broke out and was subsequently used to transport the Irish fleeing the island. Inspired in part by a conversation with fisherman cousin Oscar Daly that there was a replica of the Dunbrody in New Ross, Wexford, a little more research showed there was in fact a "Savannah Landing" in New Ross complete with a scale model of Forsyth park. As fate would have it Oisin attended an AGM for the Savannah GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association) where he met Professor Howard Keeley, head of Irish studies at Georgia Southern University, who was in fact the person who commissioned the Savannah landing in New Ross, thus providing the final inspiration to pen the song. The Savannah GAA is planning a trip to visit County Wexford and Dunbrody in May 2022. Musically the song has tinges of Celtic and Southern rock with fingerstyle and slide guitar throughout in a ballad form. You can listen on all major retailers including Spotify and Tidal or buy on Apple music or Amazon. Lyrics
Sailing for the western shore the teardrop of Ireland fades from view Timber from Canada, Southern Cotton and Guano from Peru Makes way for human Cargo desperation always pays its dues From Wexford county across the bay to Savannah Georgia USA New York City is far away, We're headed for the southern swamps today Famine or Genocide that's not for you or me to decide Cabbagetown and Yamacraw became a new abode for Irish eyes Railroad days are hard and long for Irishmen both young and strong Collapsing in the southern sun , toss them to the side and move along With cobblestones and broken bones Dunbrody sailed across the sea Unbeknownst to those on board headed for the 13th colony It might seem like Irony to end up where you're not supposed to be But for the Irish on the Dunbrody it had to be our destiny From Wexford county across the bay to Savannah Georgia USA New York City is far away, We're headed for the southern swamps today Spirits brought us here Spirits bring us home Dunbrody brought us here Dunbrody bring me home Dunbrody bring me home Xuluprophet Show DatesXuluprophet at Tipsy Mcsway

The man that has been filling in on the drums, Geoff Kohler, is actually one of the musicians who got started with Xulu in Savannah busking days on River Street…Even before the fateful joining forces of Xulu & Oisin in 2013 under an oak on Bull at 4:30 AM. 'Killing Fields' penned by Daly is an introspective look the culpability of non participation in evildoing and equating it with the guilt involved in Catholicism in the refrain 'I'm Guilty', however the song ends with a rallying cry to 'Free Yourself'. Stylistically the track has echoes of early 90's funk rock and grunge reminiscent of bands such as RHCP and Pearl Jam. The track was recorded at SCAD studios by Clea Cullen who also contributed backing vocals for the song and mixed by Oisin Daly.
Killing Fields lyrics
Have you seen the Killing Fields Or has the veil come down How can I live with myself with my head stuck in the ground Can you hear the piper coming back around How can you with all your hands so firmly planted in the sand? I'm Guilty I can see quite clearly inside these walls of this world I've built myself Please don't remind me of the death outside my door We all try to save ourselves but something gotta give We've all lost sight of this and there nothing we can do to save us now I'm Guilty Crucify me (I'm Guilty) Absolve me (I'm Guilty) Show me the easy way out Xuluprophet TeesSWAMPY'S FUNKY GALACTIC LUST xuluprophet at Tybee Post TheaterHere is a jam we've started fiff rocking on in the last month. New recording coming soon!
killing fields originated from oisin as an acoustic song before it was brought to the band. Rarely performed over the last three years, the song has recently been reworked in the band format with buddy watch walk in mind. before john set out from the bands backyard on tybee pier, he and xulu had been in discussion about having some music for the 2k + journey that will culminate at santa monica pier!
since then john has been joined by jimmy mathews, another veteran with a passion for ending veteran suicide. we're honored to play a small part, a supporting role in this larger than life epic adventure for an honorable a good cause. scad recording session snapshots

xuluprophet is a proud sponsor of buddy watch walk. One of our fans, John ring, decided to walk across the united states to raise awareness and money for veterans ( video below). Our contribution to this important effort is a simple a song. We're just doing our part.
We've done work for veterans issues in the past and this is a natural fit for the us. Buddy Watch WalkBuddy Watch Walk - Pier to Pier began as one man’s passion to bring awareness to the issues that veterans face every day which can ultimately lead them to giving up. It has now become the mission of two men. John Ring began the journey on the Tybee Island Pier in Georgia, and Jimmy Mathews joined him in Pearl, Mississippi. They will conclude their walk on the Santa Monica Pier in California. Together, they are working to bridge the gap between the civilian and military worlds and raise awareness of veteran issues such as mental health, PTSD, homelessness, unemployment, MST, TBI, addiction, and suicide. Veterans need to know that they haven’t been forgotten before they give up. Reach out and help change the statistic! Make a travel donation below and help John & Jimmy make a difference!
